Day One Hundred and Eight - Squirrely

Today’s shirt came to me from my good friend Brian Garner. Brian is a master lithographer, and has been teaching for many years now. He’s the guy who made me aware of printmaking, besides screenprinting, and can definitely tell a good story. He gave me this “Squirrel” shirt the other day. Apparently Brian’s good friend Perry Tymeson is a bit squirrely. Haha, well I guess The Army of Squirrels is his nickname for his way of working and teaching. He is an instructor as well. Works fast and always on the go, and is very efficient during the job. Read this little note from Brian to me on the man who is Perry Tymeson.

Hey Man

I was in Philly today with Perry moving some presses and seeing shops. Was cool. A little about Perry Tymeson. He owns Suitcase Press in Jersey City, NJ. He is basically the printer’s printer. He knows everything about any press and print shop, who is full of shit, and who is for real. If there is a press to be moved bought or sold, he knows where it is. He is, a master printmaker, and one of my mentors. He has been collaborating with artist for over 35 years, in prints shops around the country. Knows the who’s who in the biz. All of that and he is coy. You would never know because he does not toot his own horn. That’s really why I like him.”

I wish I had some links to work. I searched online, but no luck. Brian Let me know if you have any links!

Thanks to you guys for putting up the “Army of Squirrel” shirt on your site!!
I am actually the screenprinter of said T-shirt- I came up with the concept (sort of an underground “guerrilla” Artists/Printmakers’ movement— Perry decides who the members are) and have known Perry and worked with him for a while–and all the above is totally true.
It is a testament to how much he has helped me with my “real” job and with my “art” job.
Also, this is a cool idea for a web site—and I like the charity you are donating to. I’ll be back. Cheers!
